Some stories begin with bricks and timber. Ours began with a bird.
Years ago, a rare white sparrow landed in the backyard of a Christchurch home owned by one of our founders, Sherma. His wife saw it first. Something gentle, out of place, and quietly extraordinary. The story made the news. But more than that, it stuck with them.
That sparrow became a symbol; of hope, of possibility, and of rare moments that deserve to be noticed. So, when it came time to name our business, a business built around second chances, White Sparrow Homes felt like the only name that made sense.
At White Sparrow Homes, we see potential where others see problems. We buy Christchurch homes that are often overlooked — tired, damaged, uninsurable or hard-to-sell — and we bring them back to life. Not to knock them down, but to rebuild, restore, and renew.
We offer a respectful, person-first process to home sellers who are ready to move on, many of them long-time owners navigating life transitions.
We then create move-in-ready homes for first-home buyers and young families who want something solid and meaningful.
We make selling simple, buying feel safe, and every project count for something more than just profit.
Co-Founder
Dave is a Christchurch local with a background in the Navy and nearly two decades of property experience under his belt.
After years of juggling home renovations and investment projects on the side, he made the leap to go full-time into property.
For Dave, White Sparrow Homes is more than just a business. It’s a way to channel his passion for housing, combine forces with Sherma, and create something meaningful in the city he’s always called home.

Sherma’s journey started in the telco world, but it didn’t take long to realise he was meant for something different.
After founding his own business, A1 Comms, he focused on delivering real service and building trust with customers.
His entry into property came post-earthquake, when he began investing in rentals and land. White Sparrow Homes brings together his business know-how and real estate ambition — and teaming up with Dave made it all click.
We live here. We build here. We hire locally and work with tradespeople who take pride in their craft. For us, this isn’t just a business. It’s a way to improve our city, one home, one seller, one buyer at a time.
